A poem wrote by my daughter for a school project. It is her personal take on what equality means to her.
Equality
When we first opened our eyes,
The innate rights of life, liberty,
And the pursuit of happiness thrust upon us.
Everyone in this world is given a voice.
No matter their religion or where they came from.
We as a country are united and stand as one.
We aren’t given the choice of what we look like
Nor where we came from.
So we shouldn’t discriminate against people based on their story.
When we look at one another we shouldn’t fight.
Instead we should embrace how lucky we are
To have had the founding fathers
Sign the document that gave us our liberty.
And we shouldn’t argue, but remember the lives
Of soldiers that willingly fought
To defend such liberty for our people.
Equality doesn’t mean that we are all equally gifted,
Instead we are equally given the chance to try.
To prove ourselves to the world
And show everyone what we are capable of.
